The first question people ask when they see this video is always: "Is this a true story?" And the answer to that is, "Yes, sort of." We spent a fun evening searching through the Civil War Soldier Index on familysearch.org at records for Union and Confederate soldiers.
We chose eleven soldiers (5 union and 6 confederate) for our eleven boys to play. So, in that way, yes, these men were real people, but we have no record that any of them even met, let alone saved a member of the enemy side. However this IS a story about real people. It's a story about the forgiveness, love, and courage we are all capable of. It is about the soldier in each of us who does what they know is right even though they may be put in danger, mocked by their friends, or otherwise hurt.
This is a story about sons. This is a story about mothers. This is a story about you.
