Behind the Scenes - Day 15

The fun never ends! We just had our last full-cast film day and, man, did we have a blast. I can't remember laughing so much on a shoot. Scroll down and you'll see why.

Rehearsing with the little girls. I like to get out there and act all the scenes out with my younger actors. If I do it once and then we do it together once, they are a lot more confident once I call "action!"

Toothless was there too. Today he was a folding table, the top half of the dragon stand covered by a sheet of green screen. We needed something for the kids to look and and beat on that we could then remove in post.

But it wasn't just a dragon-stand-in. Matthew (Stoic), Mason (Hiccup) a turned it into a private gazebo. I wasn't even admitted and I'm the director. Granted, there wasn't much room for me. It took some cajoling to get them out so we could go over the script.

"C'mon Hiccup. Time for bed."

Matthew, our renowned improvisor and comedian, took every opportunity to create some priceless outtakes. He and Mason are incredibly good friends so while Stoic is yelling and pushing hiccup around in the foreground, in the background they are playing and joking around. I swear half of the blooper reel will be these two.

And the other half of the blooper reel will be these two. I needed a very simple shot where Matthew is talking to Gobber and then looks up to see Hiccup flying above him. Knowing I'd cut the sound out later and replace it with music, I told them to just talk and use their hands and then look up when I have them the cue.

BUT! They couldn't stop making each other laugh. They were talking about the viking fighting pits, hot dogs, flying machines, and how rock paper scissors got invented. We were all dying by the end.

Matthew and Linda (Little Blondie) are pretty close in real life. You can almost always find them together on set bantering and teasing each other. Little Linda can hold her own and this is Matthew's classic I've-met-my-match-and-I'm-annoyed. . .and-a-little-proud face.

Coming up next we have one more green screen day and a solo filming day for Little Blondie . She's got to wake up and scream out a window. That's going to be a fun day.
