How to Train Your Dragon - Day 16

I can't believe we're here! Today was Hiccup's last filming day. WOW!

Today was a complete and utter green screen day. Mason (Hiccup) rode a dragon for more than six hours straight. He was over Berk, in the clouds, above the ocean, running from the Flightmare, fighting the Flightmare, and we never left the back porch. Green Screen really is an amazing thing. I love it . . . and hate it because it's a lot of work in post, but it's worth it!

You know how, eleven posts ago (Filming Day 10), I was cringing at how many times Hiccup falls in this script? In that post I said that we had finally filmed his very last fall . . . well I was wrong. TODAY we filmed his last last fall. Toothless does a victory spin in the air after the Test Drive Scene and Hiccup falls off into the ocean. But, there was no ocean on our back porch so Mason just pretended to fall--or that's what he meant to do--the dragon stand wasn't very stable and he actually did fall. He wasn't hurt, but, man it was close. I'm SO glad there is no more falling.

Mason will be back later to record some ADR, but this is it for filming. It was his last day in the costume. Last day on Toothless. Last day in Berk. Thank you for everything you gave this role Mason. It was such a complex, demanding, and taxing role but you gave it your all and exceeded expectations in every way possible!
