Hiccup's Inventions

Updated: May 4, 2019

One thing to know about Hiccup -- he's always got an invention brewing in the back of his head. And that means his workshop is full of scraps of paper with drawings and sketches and diagrams and math problems and scrawled notes-to-self. Today we got together with some of the cast and created these sketches in preparation for our first filming day (eek! It's in two days).

We had Nelson (Hockskull), Rachel (Haggi), Miriam (Astrid), Matthew (Stoic) and a few other friends each created a sketch to tack to Hiccup's Workshop wall. Matthew drew Leonardo Da Vinci's famous flying machine. Who knew? Hiccup thought of it first.

Drawing the crazy inventions was fun, but the coolest part was the Norse Runes that we wrote on some of the sketches. Hiccup probably would have written things like: "left gear turns clockwise" or "remember to ask Gobber for more iron" but our messages were WAY more interesting. Here are some of our favorites:

- Hiccup and Toothless

- Astrid's Weapon is Cool

- Don't ask me how it works. I'm not Hiccup

- This is a very ugly drawing

- Hockskull

- This is a time machine

Miriam drew a picture of Astrid just for fun and it was so cool that I put it in the workshop, just because. She is one amazing artist! As are most of our cast members (if not all).

And then we took them all out to the workshop and stuck them up with duct tape. Goodness, I don't know how the Vikings got along without duct tape. Seriously, how did they mount stuff to their stone walls? You can't just use a hammer and nails.

Filming starts in two days! Keep an eye out for photos here on the blog. I'll also be posting photos of the workshop AND photos of Hiccup's Bola Launcher. You won't want to miss those. I haven't seen it yet, but I am braced for the incredible!
