It's the day we've all been waiting for! We finally got the whole cast together (minus Hiccup which was really weird) and shot our first large-scale scene. It was so much fun!
Today we were filming the feast scene. It's an evening after a long day of dragon training and the village has settled down to a meal. Hiccup's friends talk about Hiccup's major mess-up in the arena and Stoic the chief overhears.
It was everyone's first scene (except Astrid) and it was a blast! We got dressed up, seated, rehearsed, and then we ran through the scene close to twenty times, maybe more, from all sorts of angles. The kids--Haggi, Fishlegs, Ruff-Nut, Tuff-Nut, and Hockskull--really have their character's personalities down. With no promoting from me they WERE their characters. It was kind of magical to watch.
Even my extras were amazing. I got so many great shots of my viking villagers talking and eating and being Vikings. It was so cool! They were right in their element, talking, laughing, sneaking each other's food, passing thins to one another. It felt just like a meal in the 1000's.
AND -- last but not least -- Creed (Gobber) and Matthew (Stoic) were phenomenal! Creed does a Scottish/Gobber accent and it is spot on! Both boys are supposed to look older than the rest of the cast so we got Matthew a false beard and Creed a false mustache and they were so cool. They completed the picture--though the mustache had trouble sticking and the beard kept getting stuck in Matthew's mouth. Blach! I think we can fix that for next time though . . . which isn't all that far off. Stay tuned!
