Our FIRST green screen Day!
You know we're nearing the end when we roll out the green screen,
There are a lot of green screen scenes in this movie, but today we just did the scenes with Hiccup, Toothless, AND Astrid. Why? Because Miriam (Astrid) is headed to college in just ten days and hanging up her axe. Yes, today was her last filming day. It's crazy! We are sure going to miss her, but she did one excellent job! We couldn't have asked for a better Astrid. Thank you Miriam for all of the dedication and love you put into this role!
So today--because we had to do everything with Miriam in it--we filmed (1) the confrontation, (2) the romantic flight, (3) kill the Dragon and, (4) freeing Toothless. You might be surprised that we didn't film the escape flight. If you recall, Astrid dangles from Toothless's claw while Hiccup rides on Toothless's back. We had it slated to film that scene today, but we realized that we never actually see Astrid and Hiccup in the same shot, so I'm filming Hiccup's bit later when he comes for his solo filming day and I took Miriam up to the tool shed later to film her dangling from the rafters (Toothless's claw). Her hands were so sore afterwards, but she kept trekking! What a star!
