Haggi has become one of my favorite characters in this script. We added her to Hiccup's familiar ensemble of friends because I needed an alpha. I wanted Astrid to be softer, less dominant, so that left a space for Haggi to step in. She's kind of bossy, kind of sarcastic, and one awesome, highly skilled Viking Warrior.
Haggi is played by the one and only Rachel T. who is so sweet and cheerful and easy going, with just enough spunk to keep all of us on our toes. We all love Rachel a ton!
Haggi herself is a master bowman and knife slinger which means we need a master propsman to create the weapons. Creed is our man when it comes to Haggi's Ensemble. He took it upon himself to make Haggi the best outfitted viking of them all.
The long bow was first. He created it out of a branch which he found and shaped and strong himself. The script ordered an enormous bow and Creed made it happen. Easter Egg: look for the Lost Boys' and Pirates' swords in the pictures below.
Then there was the quiver and the arrows. He took a PVC pipe and the sleeve off a leather coat to create the lining and two belts to make the wrap-around. The arrows are fletched in actual feathers, thank you to Carter who donated those. Creed worked a long time to get the belts just right so they would fit Rachel and keep the quiver upright.
And, last but no least. He made two throwing knives for her out of wood and leather and (I think this is so cool)metal shelf bracket. I absolutely LOVE that our kids on fire just use what they kind find. It takes a different mindset to find a shelf bracket and see a knife, or a red dress and see a pirate coat, or a wood flooring and see a viking shield.
Thank you Creed! It takes a huge group of talented people to create a movie--some of them in the spotlight, some of them not--but all of them SO important.
