Behind the Scenes - Day 11

First off, I need to give credit where credit is due. I didn't take almost any of these pictures. The beauty of filming a scene with lots and lots of actors is that there are more photographers and BTS videographers on set. Thank you to everyone who snapped pictures and recorded video yesterday (I'm looking at you Naomi :) (and you Kami) (and YOU Matthew). I have so many fun BTS snapshots to show you!

Look at that car! Packed to the hilt with Viking stuff. We already have a whole room in our house dedicated to Kids in Fire stuff. Maybe it's time to get a trailer . . .

I love all of these cameo shots.

From left to right we've got: Lauren (Singrid), Kathy (Oli), Rachel (Haggi) Reuben (Tuff-Nut), Nelson (Hockskull), William (Aaron Son of Aaron), Rachel (Director), Linda (Little Blondie), and Emeline (Ruff-Nut) . . . and he baby goat Muffin.

Is it nap time yet?

All my Vikings waiting for instructions.

There was a scene where Hiccup runs into Stoic amid a crowd of running vikings and because we needed it to look like more vikings than there actually were, the kids would run past camera, loop back behind, and run it again. They ran circles for almost a full half hour. Wew! What a workout!

For one of the shots, Fishlegs had to dive to the ground to avoid getting eaten by a swooping dragon. He did that epic fall about five times!

If there's one thing to know about movie making is that it's 78% waiting around. But we had food and good company so we weren't too poor-off.

Oh yes . . . you can be assured that if there is a tree on set, there will be at least one climber. Today at least five of my boys shimmied up the trunks and watched the filming from op there. Thank goodness no one fell.

And you can bet with weapons on set there were a LOT of Impromptu duels. My favorite was when all the little kids ganged up on Stoic and he had to spin around with his hammer to ward them off.

So the script called for sheep and I searched and searched for people who would let us film with their sheep, but I nearly gave up on the idea. Couldn't the kids be watching the sunrise or something simple like that? But then I was reminded that our good friends had goats and not only did they have goats but they had BABY goats. Sold. We got permission and had the best time. It took a lot of crew to get the goats to walk the way we needed them to walk, but the result was amazing.

What did I tell you? Did we have fun or what?
